They are both tactile transducers. They do not produce any sound, rather they send a vibration through the seat. This vibration corresponds to the low frequency sounds of the movies soundtrack. You "feel" the stomp of the dinosaur, the take off of the rocket, the eruption of the volcano, etc.

The above instructions recommend installing bass shaker® to the floor, under your chair. However another source states: "The result is an amazing ability to shake the surface on which it's mounted (i.e. the floor, sofa, or chair). Many of our customers have enjoyed good results attaching the butt shaker to the internal frame of the chair. Being extremely careful not to allow the butt shaker device to interfere in any way with the function of the chair. Assemble, and install at your own risk.
